Plenty of tasty baked goods and breads. Definitely a great place to stop while driving that part of the coast. While we were visiting there was some live music in the gardens which mad it the perfect place to eat a pastry and to drink a couple of lazy coffees.
Lovely shopping items. I shopped a lot. Cheap food. Not long lines. Good menu and seating and desert options.
This place makes the best malasadas I've had so far in life. Light, fluffy, sugary balls of Hawaiian goodness. They have numerous different kinds but the traditional ones are my favorite. Just be sure to get there before the tourist busses pull in. Otherwise they could be sold out. Nice park-like setting to sit outside and enjoy baked goods with a cup of Hawaiian coffee.
This is the source for that amazing sweet bread you find in all the stores around Hawaii. My favorite is the guava bread. They have great prepared food available too including soups and sandwiches. Beautiful grounds to eat outside including abundant flowers and birds. Live music was playing too...a great time!
When visiting the Big Island of Hawaii and have the opportunity to drive around the Southern end of the island stop at the Punalu'u Bake Shop for a bite to eat or just a rest (pit) stop. They have prepared sandwiches that can be eaten outside on a patio at the bake shop or taken to go. The bake shop is not far from the Punalu'u Black Sand Beach where, if you are lucky, can walk up within a few feet of sea turtles resting on the beach.
