There are no places to eat at Colony 1, so expect to make your meals or drive to one of the local eateries.
Wonder place to stay on the South end of the Big Island. Highly recommend unit 49 through Homeaway.ca. Great unit, wonderful grounds, great pool & hot-tub. Also easy walk to Black Sands Beach and 40 min drive to Volcano Park. Only think is to buy groceries from a big store either in Kaileua or in Ocean View. Otherwise not many food shopping options locally.
However, the AC was just in the bedroom. We ran it constantly to try to cool the other areas of the unit.
Impossible to find food within 50 miles after 8pm.. except for a nearby (12~14min car ride) gas station with very friendly staff.
Views were nice, you can easily get to the black sand beach, rental unit was as advertised. Management was friendly and helpful.
Quite a drive from Kona but well worth it! Quiet,relaxing,scenic,and serene. We have a one bedroom and it is a perfect size for 3 adults. Even though our room is not exactly on the ocean we still had a fantastic view. The condo is clean and well stocked for a vacation getaway and having an in unit W/D helped with minimizing bringing extra clothes.At night away from City lights and noise gave us great views of the stars and blissful sounds of the ocean... Recommend this place!!!
One of the major downside is your in the middle of nowhere. The closest town is about 15 minutes up the road and other then an amazing bakery, an ace hardware and a small glass station there's not really anything. No restaurant near by you have to do all your shopping in Kona and bring all your food and drinks then do all your own cooking. Doing your own cooking not a big down side but shoot your in Hawaii on vacation.
All in all the place is very relaxing if you want a place to go and stay and do nothing. I can say that my family and I will not be staying here again on account of the drive it takes to get there and the fact there is nothing around to go or do, and how strict they are with their rules.
The place is very quiet and peaceful. There are some very nice scenic views and the black sand beach is neat. Unfortunately the beach is not much good for swimming as the surf is usually pretty strong and there is not really any good snorkeling. The huts/condos are pretty nice decently furnished and pretty spacious, the bed leave you wanting more. The condo grounds and pool are well kept up and clean but the rest of the area including golf course have been let go. You can still play golf they do keep it groomed and clean just most of the grass is dried and brown. They are also super anal with their pool and BBQ area rules and they sit and watch on surveillance and will come tell you if you did something they don't like. I couldn't even use a small blowup beach ball in the pool with my son and we were the only ones in there.
Good quiet location within walking distance from the black sand beach.
Cable TV didn't work.
Pool is clean.
