I loved this beach. I have been to couple of other black sand beaches but this one is pretty amazing. The sands are coarse grained and they are really shiny and sparkling. Unlike other black sand beaches it does not have white impurity. You can see sea turtles in this beach.
If you walk little bit south the landscape is really pretty, it has a good mix of black lava rock and green plants. You can take the coastal hike as long as you want. The hike ia easy and refreshing.
The black sand is unique so only for that it's worth a visit. We were also lucky to see 2 turtles while there, so that was very neat. There is also a nice pond nearby with lily flowers, which were in bloom when we visited (early October). We did not stick around to swim as it's very rocky and because of the black sand you cannot see the bottom of the ocean so getting into the water did not seem very attractive. But I would definitely make a quick pit stop.
Easy access beach with ample parking. The black sand is amazing to look at. Also the sand particles are surprisingly sharp. Make sure to wear comfortable sandals. The black sand, and the vegetation around is stunning to look at. Next to the beach is a small pond, with fresh water Flowers !
There is a place here to change, in the event you want to go swimming. There is also a small beach shop where you can buy towels, bathing suits and trinkets. There was a life guard on duty. AND for a fun surprise, we saw a green sea turtle basking right on the beach (FYI, give them their space... they are harmless, but there are tons of signs that say you must give them space).
I stopped here with my boyfriend and had a picnic on the beach during the afternoon. The parking was free and the sand was amazingly black! We also saw 2 turtles while eating! The geese there are very used to people and being fed, so if you bring food be prepared for them to walk right up to you. Definitely worth a visit.
